A lot of clients ask if I offer digital photos.
I like to ask my clients what do you plan on doing with the photos from your session?
Almost all of the time the answer is… “I don’t know yet”.
My question for you to think about is why hire a professional photographer just to have those beautiful photos sitting on a USB?
I can’t remember the last time I opened the CD with all my wedding photos on it but I will tell you that my husband and I have a tradition to look at our wedding album every anniversary!
Let me tell you a recent story of one of my very loyal photography clients…
I photographed her daughters newborn photos 3 years ago and she recently moved. She sent me an email saying that she lost the USB with all of her daughters newborn pictures in the move.
I sadly reminded her that in the contract that she signed at the time, it states that I only keep the files for 1 yr. My next question was, “Did you print any?”
Her answer was, “No”.
She will never be able to get those photos back.
I try really hard to explain the importance of printing the digital files to my clients for this reason and that storage devices on average last 5-10yrs.
Let me give you another example...
Say your daughter is graduating soon and you get your USB out with her newborn photos on them to add to her open house photos/slideshow and your computer says,
"Unable to open"
That USB is corrupt...they do not last forever!
So please PRINT! PRINT! PRINT!
Hi! I’m Dawn, the one behind the lens at Cherish the Moments Photography. I started loving photography in High School but my dream of owning my own business grew after having kids. As a mom, we all we all know how stinkin fast time flies and in a blink of an eye your children go from just being born to moving out of the house. Photography for me is a way to stop time and a reminder not to forget all those little moments.
A little bit about myself…
I am a Nurse at a plastic surgery office in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There is an awarding feeling to witness a person’s self-confidence grow exponentially after surgery whether it is cosmetic or breast reconstruction from breast cancer.
I was born and raised in Greenville, MI. I married my High School sweet heart. It hasn’t been the easiest journey but we have learned the importance of growing together and not apart. We have been married for 10 years together for 18.
The 2 loves of my life are my children! God has blessed me with 2 beautiful and healthy children. (Can’t ever take health for granted – the nurse in me 😊) My daughter is 11 and could seriously be my clone but with her father’s stubbornness! My son is 8 and a daddy’s boy but he still loves cuddling with his momma!
My favorite food is Pizza and my favorite drink is coke.
My life motto is “Faith it till you make it” meaning: Not knowing what the exact outcome will be but keeping the faith & allowing God to work things out.
My other loves in life are make-up (I have about 5 drawers of it 😊), fashion, chocolate, camping with my family, and we cannot forget Christmas!
I celebrate Christmas in some way on the 25th of every month with my kids. We will wear our Christmas Pjs to bed, watch a Christmas movie, listen to Christmas music on the way to school… etc.
I am a hopeless romantic! Life = Love. My favorite movies are Hope Floats, Safe Haven & The Note Book. My favorite TV show is This is Us. If that doesn’t tell you how hopeless I am I don’t know what would.
The one thing I think I could live without is Snow! I think it’s beautiful but I don’t like driving in it and I hate being cold. My dream someday would be to live somewhere warmer.
My best friend is my mom! She has been there for me through everything. If I need someone to talk to at 3am, someone to take the kids because I need a break, someone to take me shopping (we call it shopping therapy- because there is something therapeutic about going shopping and buying something for yourself or for someone else), she will come over and do my laundry & clean my house occasionally to surprise me or to just help.
How about you? Any fun facts you would like to share below?
Thank you for following my journey!
XOXO, Dawn Hopkins
I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph this beautiful couple!
Kali and Brandon will be first time parents in June and I already know that they will do a wonderful job.
These 2 made my job very easy. Every pose or moment was so natural and just the way I envisioned it. Other than dealing with the wind whipping Kali's hair everywhere, it was one of my favorite sessions to date. A lot of times I have to have a little talk with the Husband about relaxing and being "natural" with his posing but Brandon did AWESOME!
I love that you can see and feel the love they have for each other in every photo.
I am so excited to snuggle with their little man!
Mini Sessions at Klackles Orchard in Greenville turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I was crossing my fingers all week hoping to catch the trees at the right time, and we did! The trees were gorgeous. I couldn't help but take advantage of the beauty by doing my own family photos!

Carter is 1! My heart gets so happy when I have returning clients! I have photographed this little peanut since his newborn session and his big sister for going on 3 years now. This family is the sweetest!
Just look at those kissable cheeks!
Such cutie patooties!
Thank you to the Johnson family for letting me capture your cherished moments!
Sutton Grace Braman - 8.5# 20.5in - Born 4/12/17
This little peanut is perfect in every way! I had such an honor to capture another special moment for this family! I absolutely adore them.
Kane is such a good big brother already. He takes his job very seriously! Ashley, (aka MOM) states that the very first thing he does in the morning when he wakes up is run and check on Sutton and gives her kisses all day long! The bond that they have started creating is priceless and will only get stronger with time.
She might have peed on her parents 3 times and pooped twice but those are the moments that they will never forget!
I absolutely love capturing these precious moments!
This is the Braman family! Ashley is 36 weeks and just glowing. They are expecting early April and I am thrilled to be apart of their growing family.
First of all I want to talk about Ashley and Ed's love for each other! These 2 are the definition of "unconditional love". Unconditional love is defined as affection without any limitations or love without conditions. The love that they have is an inspiration to me. The way he looks at her, talks to her like she is everything to him, the way he does what she asks without hesitation are only a few examples. I can say without hesitation that their love is what majority of relationships aspire to be.
Secondly, the love that they have for little Kane is AMAZING! He is such a handsome little man. These two definitely make GORGEOUS babies. Their baby girl is going to be so beautiful and fashionable! Ashley loves make-up, wearing the latest trend, and always looks incredible.
I am so excited to meet this little blessing in April!
You may be wondering "Why make prints at all, unless you actually want to display a particular image?" In principle, digital data lasts forever. Its always there to look at on your computer monitor. You can migrate from one storage medium to another, and from one computer system to the next, and never lose any information. But...
The hard drive on my lap top recently crashed! I kept saying to myself, "I need to back that up soon"! Well I thought I lost 2 recent photo sessions before sending them to the clients. Talk about a panic attack! For some reason, ( I give GOD the credit) after an hour of trying to restart the computer I was able to get to the desktop for about 5 minutes before the screen went black again. HALLELUJAH! Lesson Learned,
Reasons why you should PRINT your photos!
1) If you store your images on your hard drive, it can crash, and fairly soon. You will be getting a new computer. In the next 30 years you will likely get 10 or more computers. Each time you must move the images. If you store your digital images on removable media (CD's or USB's) you will have to migrate to a new storage medium. When you are 20 or 30 years older than you are now will those images actually get migrated?
2) Unless you make a serious effort to organize your digital image files, it will be hard to find a picture later for reprinting. By default files are stored by a long meaningless number as the file name.
3) It ought to go without saying that you can't depend on anyone else to save your images for you. One of my friends put all her photos on a hosting service called Photopoint. Its now out of business, and she has no family photos. This can happen to any hosting service.
4) Think about what will happen after you are gone, and some relative is going through your things, deciding what to save. Your digital photos files will look to the uninitiated like a pile of obsolete software. Remember, 50 years from now, CDs will be museum pieces. Yes, it will be possible to take them to a service bureau and have them copied to current media, that is if the original storage media lasts. But will your grandchildren know that? And will they bother? If the relative sees real family pictures, printed on paper, those are likelier to be saved.
For all those reasons, if you have family pictures that you would like your grandchildren and their grandchildren to be able to look at, I can't recommend that you store them digitally. Digital is great for anything that doesn't need to last more than a few years. Very few people want to make pictures that will last 3 years and NO LONGER.
The moral of the story is PRINT - PRINT - PRINT!
I want to thank all of you who believe in me and make this dream of mine possible! Photography is my passion and I cant wait to see what 2017 brings!
I am Dawn Hopkins a photographer in Greenville, MI. I specialize in Maternity and newborn photography! I have always loved the way photography has the ability to freeze a moment in time! It's those moments that you cherish for a lifetime. Life goes by so fast and to be able to look back at those moments is priceless!
